Introducing Marston's

Marston’s have been running pubs for over 180 years, and during this time their pubs have become a national institution. With over 1,550 establishments and 13,000 employees across the UK, we are incredibly proud to have such a thriving company on our client list.

Marston’s is one of the top pub businesses in the UK, and is the leading brewer of premium cask and bottled beers with six breweries producing over 60 different ales. Their pubs range from the traditional locals, to family orientated restaurants, to the more modern gastropub. Over the years, Marston’s have become experts at catering for their loyal customers, resulting in the business becoming a FTSE All Share listed company.

Our Work

We are partnering with Marston’s on their new build public houses and lodges to provide employers agent, cost management and construction safety services for their design and build roll out across the UK.

Each public house scheme comprises a new build public house and restaurant with associated external works. Internally they include the front of house seating area, toilets, back of house kitchen, cellar and staff area complete with manager’s accommodation. Externally the schemes typically include car parking, paving, gardens and service yards. Each lodge scheme comprises a new build lodge with associated external works. Internally they include the construction and fit-out of all bedrooms, staff areas and where applicable, meeting rooms. Externally the schemes typically include car parking, paving and service yards.

Marston’s had found that using the traditional route of procurement to build had become unmanageable, and they were looking for a design and build solution. Our first task was to reassure Marston’s that the move from traditional to design and build was the right thing to do – it was going to be a major cultural shift for the company and could have been costly if not managed properly. From the beginning we demonstrated to Marston’s that there were no barriers, only hurdles to be overcome.

We are involved in these projects from inception to completion. During the acquisition stage we provide cost management and construction safety services, working with the development team to ensure the project meets Marston’s expectations. On site and post completion we act as the Employers Agent, provide cost management, and construction safety services. We also project manage the client directs and design changes on all schemes.

This has been a triumph of our ability to manage projects nationwide, and it has provided Marston’s with a cost-effective solution for their pubs and lodges, and it has successfully reduced the overall duration of each project.

The model has continually developed and changed as the roll out has progressed. With Marston’s, we have successfully opened in excess of 150 new build pubs and over 1,000 new build lodge bedrooms – this is a considerable increase from their 3 pub schemes a year before partnering with KMB.
